Olaelei Species Guide

Olaelei (Oh-LAY-lee) are a rodent species inhabiting an alien planet inhabited by a variety of beasts, humanoids, and a few remnants of man. The world is in a state of war, the inhabitants not taking to kindly to the presence of man.  The Olaelei are a species native to the planet, and hunted by man for their pelts and companionship.

They are a very calm breed, enjoying the comforts of warm dens. They are smaller than most creatures. The humans have classified them as a 'rodent', much like the capybara.  They are equipped with stocky builds, with large back feet much akin to that of a rabbits, and fleshy noses similar to that of deer breeds on Earth. It is common to see them hopping around like rabbits, but on the occasion they can be spotted standing on their toes, especially those with longer tails. They are adequate swimmers, and excellent climbers. Their favorite snack are the native breed of wasps, a small species of fish, and most green leaves.  All Olaelei have a single white spot on each ear. Their eyes vary in all colors of the rainbow, and on the rare sighting; grey. The fur of an Olaelei is thick, but soft to the touch.

It has been noted that they breed in pairs, sticking to one or two different mates in their life time (which spans from 13 human Earth years to 70) and often give birth to 1 to 4 offspring at a time. They are marsupials, with both parents having pouches to carry and share the burden of their offspring.
